Community Education and ETC

Students must be at least 5 years old and have begun Kindergarten to attend. Explorer Time Company is a state licensed after-school program that operates at each of Woodford County's elementary schools.  ETC has participated with the Kentucky AllStars Quality Program since 2010.  ETC has been awarded the "Outstanding After School Award" by Kentucky Community Education Association (KCEA)

Our goal at ETC is to offer a safe and fun environment for students.  Daily activities include a snack, physical activity, homework time, structured projects, or exploration time in interest centers.

If you would like more information about ETC you can contact our Program Manager, Ashley Sullivan, or by calling (859) 879-4628.

Registration for the 2020-21 school year is uncertain at this time due to possible changes required for safe re-opening and social distancing due to Covid-19 precautions.  Since we may be opening with a reduced capacity, pre-registration for the next school year is being taken from our current families only for now. We hope to open pre-registration for new families by July.   We apologize for the uncertainty.  Our office is not open every day yet. If you need more information please email our program manager Ashley Sullivan at :

The registration form will be available for download here

ETC is open until 6:00pm on regular school days.  Hours are 7:00am until 6:00pm on Snow Days unless conditions are too dangerous such as a state of emergency declared by state government or the parking lots cannot be cleared.  Full-day programs (Snow Days, Teacher Training Days) are available at a separate daily rate and take place at one location that will be announced in advance.

ETC will also be open for its full-day program during Non-Traditional Instruction Days (NTI) that are not related to the Covid-19 closure.  During NTI days, students will have a short opportunity to work on NTI assigned school work during the day's activity schedules, however, due to the varied assignments and age levels, staff may not be able to offer one on one assistance.  Some computer time should be available as well for those who have work assignments in their google classroom.

Students must be registered and accepted into the ETC program before they can attend any full days.

If ETC has to be closed for dangerous conditions, families will be notified by the One Call Now system and/or email as early as possible.  We try to post updates on our Facebook page at WCPS Explorer Time Company - ETC.

When school is closed for a scheduled break, ETC offers full-day childcare on some of those dates.  The full-day location for all schools for 2019-20 is at Simmons Elementary School.  Children must be registered for ETC during the current school year in order to attend a full day program.  All scheduled full days must be reserved and paid for in advance.  Reservation forms are available at each school site.  The deadlines for registration will be announced in August 2019.  ETC is closed on Christmas and Spring Break.

Smartcare Logo

ETC uses a childcare specific computer billing and attendance program called Smartcare.  Upon enrollment to ETC you may get an email from 'Smartcare Services' asking you to set up an account.  Please complete this and your ETC Site Coordinator will assist you with anything further.

You may also get an email containing a bill that looks like it came from your child's school. These are just test billings and you should disregard it.  Please read the handout to know what to expect. Download the handout HERE

We love our volunteers logo

Woodford County Schools is fortunate to have a strong and dedicated volunteer corps who assist in many capacities in all schools.  The volunteer handbook outlines policies and procedures that assure a safe and effective experience for all. Please contact the individual school you wish to work in for more specific scheduling, forms, and procedures.  The handbook can be accessed here.  Volunteers need to read the handbook, fill out the back page,  and have it on file at each school they serve.
